Big Dipper took to social media to issue and apology after gay Twitter called him out on a recent viral clip from his Sloppy Seconds podcast where he said that he sometimes gives hookups the address to the aparment across the street from him so he can check them out and see if he's into them before he sleeps with them.
“So, the story I told on the podcast this week has offended a lot of people, and I just wanted to apologize for that story,” he began. “The behavior I’m describing in the story is cruel, is potentially dangerous, and the way in which I shared the story on the podcast was really cavalier and irresponsible. And I didn’t really understand that or see the severity of that until people’s reaction to the clip that is going around.”
Dipper apologized again, saying that this was “a learning opportunity” and it's something that he won't do again. “And I know that I definitely let some people down with that clip, and I don’t take that lightly, so I’m sorry for that.”
Dipper did say that on a future episode he and his SLoppy Seconds co-host will talk more about the controversial clip, and will unpack the trauma behind why he gives fake addresses to potential hookups.
“We’re gonna unpack what has happened over the week. We’re gonna talk about my story and get into why it’s fucked up,” he said. “So if you want to hear a longer, more nuanced conversation about that, please tune into the podcast this Tuesday, and if not, I hope you accept my apology here.”
Kudos to Dipper for taking accountability regarding what he did. I wish more public figures and wannabe podcaster did the same instead of always looking for a controversial moment for clicks, likes and clout.
